Job Description Job Description Metrics LLC is seeking a highly skilled Cloud Engineer as we compete for a contract with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). This position is a critical part of a team supporting cutting-edge modernization and innovation initiatives utilizing advanced cloud platforms and emerging technologies. The Cloud Engineer will ensure robust, secure, and scalable cloud environments to drive successful research, prototyping, and operational excellence across the USPTO’s technology landscape. This position is primarily remote, allowing you to work securely from approved locations with company-provided equipment and credentials. Responsibilities Operate, maintain, and optimize cloud lab environments across AWS, Google Cloud Platform, and Microsoft Azure. Support cloud infrastructure used for emerging technology prototyping, testing, and piloting. Assist in evaluating and migrating complex workloads to cloud environments, ensuring security and compliance. Develop and implement secure, scalable architectures that align with federal security and privacy standards. Collaborate with solution architects, data scientists, and UX teams to integrate cloud solutions into modernization projects. Monitor system performance, respond to incidents, and proactively address operational issues. Automate provisioning, configuration, and management of cloud resources using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools. Conduct vulnerability and compliance scans, ensuring remediation aligns with policy and best practices. Document cloud environment configurations, procedures, and best practices for both technical and non-technical stakeholders. Stay updated on cloud technology advancements, recommending adoption and continuous improvements. Requirements Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field. Demonstrated expertise managing and supporting environments in at least two major cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP). Experience with cloud migration, security, and compliance in regulated environments. Strong understanding of Infrastructure as Code, automation tools, and scripting (such as Terraform, CloudFormation, Python, or Bash). Preferred Qualifications Cloud certification(s) such as AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Azure Solutions Architect, or Google Cloud Professional Cloud Architect. Prior experience working with or supporting government or highly regulated enterprise environments. Familiarity with federal security frameworks and standards, including FedRAMP, FISMA, and NIST. Experience supporting innovation labs or research-oriented, multi-cloud environments.
