Cost Accountant: Restaurant Operations & COGS

The Cost Accountant collects and analyzes cost data to reduce waste, control expenses, and improve profitability, using data visualization tools to present insights and support decision-making. Key duties include creating cost reports, performing variance analysis, and recommending cost-saving strategies to management. This role requires strong analytical, technical, and communication skills, as well as expertise in accounting principles.

Key Responsibilities

• Analyze various cost elements, including raw materials, labor, and overhead, using industry related tools; R365, Aloha as well as Power BI.
• Provide deep insights into how costs are incurred and what drives them, helping leadership make informed decisions to improve efficiency and profitability. 
• Reconcile inventory values and track inventory in coordination with operations and review pricing across the system and comparing individual pricing and usage by location. 
• Develop, implement and maintain cost control procedures, par levels and standards for materials and labor. 
• Ensure compliance with accounting standards and internal controls. 
• Perform complex reconciliations, research and root cause analysis of transaction differences and errors in a timely manner through data mining, detail analysis and research. 
• Prepare and process correcting journal entries to ensure all inventory / financial transactions are properly recorded.
• Support the month-end close by coordinating with various departments regarding timelines and communicate issues.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
• At least 2 years relevant experience
• Restaurant or manufacturing with inventory cost experience
• Strong understanding of cost accounting principles, including cost allocation, standard costing, and inventory valuation.
• Expertise with tools like R365, Aloha, Power BI or Tableau.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including complex formulas and pivot tables.
• Experience working with ERP systems.
• The ability to evaluate information, identify problems, and generate data-driven solutions.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills to effectively explain complex data to non-technical stakeholders.\
• The ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams.

Salary Description

$75,000 - 85,000
