As an R&D Test Technician at Boston Dynamics, you will be part of a small, fast-moving robotics team, supporting the operation, testing, and troubleshooting of actuators and electromechanical subassemblies for our next-generation humanoid robots. Every day, you will work hands-on with dense, high-performance components — running test stands, capturing data, and investigating issues across mechanical, electrical, and software domains. You will take ownership of test activities and follow through on root cause investigations alongside engineers. To succeed in this role, you must be self-sufficient, detail-oriented, and comfortable working in a fast-paced, ever-evolving R&D environment. Day-to-Day Activities include operating and monitoring actuator and subassembly test stands, following detailed test procedures; logging test results, tracking failures, and documenting observations in JIRA or other tracking tools; performing basic debugging of mechanical or electrical issues and escalating when needed; working closely with engineers to support root cause investigations and re-test efforts; maintaining test equipment and fixtures; assisting in setup and bring-up of new test hardware or updated test flows; and supporting traceability and documentation of tested parts. Required skills include experience testing mechanical or electromechanical systems in a lab or R&D setting, ability to read mechanical drawings and electrical schematics, familiarity with test instrumentation and data logging tools, strong attention to detail and clear documentation habits, and comfort working independently and managing shifting priorities in a fast-paced environment. Nice to haves include experience testing actuators or motion systems, familiarity with JIRA, Google Sheets, and test documentation workflows, exposure to root cause analysis or failure investigations, knowledge of safety practices around high-voltage or high-force systems, and comfort working alongside mechanical and electrical teams on prototype hardware.
